St. David’s eNews for May 18, 2017

As we prepare for the Victoria Day long weekend, coming from Ontario, I have always seen this as the first weekend in the year when the threat of frost was past.  As a child, this was the weekend that, after the trip to the nursery, the vegetable garden and the annual flowers planted.   It always seemed to be a time of anticipation, as I envisioned how the tomato plants would grow or how the marigolds would burst froth from tiny little plants.  What tremendous faith to plant a tiny tomato plant and stick a huge cage over the top of it.

And here in West Vancouver we wait too…we wait for some sunny weather and the weather forecast looks great for the weekend!  Finally, the promise of sun and warm temperatures.  I have noticed that peoples’ spirits have been picking up with this possibility…I know my spirit seems lighter knowing the clouds will depart for a few days….

Is it any wonder that this is also the season of promise and hope in the Church?  The Easter season is one when we focus our attention on resurrection:  rebirth and new life!  This time of year is filled with hope in nature, in our spirits and in our faith.

Where in your life do you need new life or rebirth?  Is there a situation or a person who is dragging you down?  Is there an area of your life that needs a spring clean?  I invite you to be open to newness and possibility in your life at this time of year.  Where is there a new seed of growth in your life that needs sunshine and water and care?   Just as the tiny plants in the Spring garden are replete with hope and promise, so too are the challenging and trying situations in our life.  May we all be open to God’s spirit breathing into our lives!
